My only complaint is that it feels so very lonely in this show. It has the feel of being at a school after all the students have gone home for the day.

Why they have Sikes, and the loser Rusty that adds nothing to the show except to make us believe the Chief is a warm and fuzzy person under there somewhere.

She's a completely different kind of character. She's older. She's a mom. She's got a different energy.
Where Brenda Johnson would fire up a room, Captain Raydor will calm it down. The result is something pretty fun to watch. The other characters have started to change in this environment as the chemistry has changed.
Provenza is a bit darker and more of a lead.. All of the other characters have continued to develop.. It's not a rehashed replacement in my opinion.
It is just a good show. I will miss Brenda, Pope, and Gabriel to be sure. I'll miss the relationship with Fritz and Brenda. The good news is "Major Crimes" is developing some new story arcs for us to enjoy and even a few new characters.

Every few years.. Gets off to a slow start, but the cast starts to gel around episode 4. As a guy, I really miss the incredibly sexy Kyra Sedgwick.
Kevin Bacon is one lucky guy. Her character's quirkiness is a stark contrast to the Sharon Rahder character, and I do miss it. Mary McDonnell is turning out to be a very good leading lady, and having the rest of the cast more involved in the story lines is great.
Don't worry. The "Amy" character develops quickly, and she is very likeable too by the middle of the first season. We've enjoyed binge watching the first 2 seasons, and season 3 just arrived in time for the long Labor Day weekend.
If the weather turns lousy, we know where to turn. Really had my doubts that the production team could make this work after losing their strong lead character when Kyra Sedgwick elected to depart.
Rehabbing the Sharon Raydor persona into someone likable was no small task, but for this viewer my opinion of Mary McDonnell's unloved Captain is warming up.
If you enjoyed the ensemble cast from The Closer it's fun to continue to watch them work together. Some of the smaller parts Kendall the Coroner, Dr.
Morales the pathologist, DA Hobbs have gotten a bit bigger. Even good old Buzz has more lines than "Yes ma'am" and has a badge!
Like some other reviewers I'm not a huge fan of the Rusty Beck character and feel he's a distraction but believe it's part of the strategy to humanize Raydor and make her more appealing to the audience.
I keep hoping we'll wrap up his story arc and move on but from watching the show creator's comments in the special features they love this kid so he's not going anywhere any time soon.
So no, it's not The Closer but this is still an entertaining show and I'm looking forward to Season 2 and 3. They've been renewed for Season 4 so someone's watching and I'll be one of them.
