Anhand zahlreicher Personen und Schicksale – an Bord wie am Boden – versucht der Film eine Annäherung an die Katastrophe, die bis heute nicht aufgeklärt.

So all in all the audio experience gives you a great deal of depth especially when in the main construction part of the Hindenburg airship, and even more impressive at the end of the film when the airship explodes in flames and descends towards the ground and eventually impacts the earth in the most spectacular way.
The editing is rather good. In fact the whole production is very professional and engaging. The ending left me severely mouth-slapped.
I knew what was coming but I didn't expect it to revert to black and white and intercut between the shots and original footage taken of the disaster in It only took sixteen seconds to go down, but it is edited very cleverly and the time is stretched to a good few minutes.
That's what you paid your money for after all, especially for a great film of this calibre, and you can tell I enjoyed it because now seeing it on this Blu-ray disc where you get to fully appreciate all of those lovely matte shots.
Let's all stand to attention and salute Albert Whitlock, The Master. Andrew C. One of my favorite movies.
It's not 'Gone With the Wind' or anything but the special effects are great and Airships are cool. I recently watched that BD blu-ray movie with closed caption.
That was based on true story. That is very good movie since I watched first episode of Timeless TV series. See all reviews.
Top reviews from other countries. Translate all reviews to English. Arrived promptly thanks. However, this Bluray release is a big disappointment.
Picture quality is poor. No better than the upscaled version I created myself a few years ago from the DVD release. Best not to bother with this until a proper HD release is made.
Report abuse. Sehr interessant auch das Innenleben eines Luftschiffes kennenzulernen. Vor allem, wenn man, wie wir, historisch sehr interessiert ist.
Translate review to English. A favourite movie of mine from childhood. The image quality is decent enough, but the sound for which the film won a special Oscar in is badly re-mastered in places -- most notably during scenes inside the interior framework of the ship, when the ambient hum overbears the actors' voices.
The total lack of any extras is also disappointing, though perhaps unsurprising given how few of the actors and crew are still alive to discuss the film.
Ich bin ein Fan von alten Filmen und diesen Film muss man einfach in seiner Sammlung haben. Ein Film - finde ich - den man sich auch hundert mal anschauen kann und immer noch interessant ist.

Wise has tried to integrate the newsreel footage of the disaster with vignettes of the fictional characters inside attempting to escape, but there's an impossible esthetic gulf between the documentary and staged scenes.
There's no tension whatsoever and none of the characters is remotely interesting, let alone sympathetic. Despite critical reaction, The Hindenburg was noteworthy for its use of special effects and won two Special Achievement Academy Awards in [27] [28].

Jennings Lang also made an epic disaster film with Earthquake. In , Robert Wise got into the act with The Hindenburg. Wise is one of our finest directors and I was so happy when he won the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award several years ago.
Everyone loves a good mystery and the Hindenburg disaster is certainly one of them. What caused the explosion? We will probably never know. What we do know is that politics had a lot to do with it.
The Hindenburg was filled with volatile hydrogen gas instead of helium. Helium is so safe it would actually smother fire. The American government did not wish to give the Germans helium because they feared they would use it for military purposes.
This film has a first class cast with George C. Scott leading the way as the heroic Colonel Franz Ritter. Only a fine actor like Scott could have made a Nazi likeable.
There are so many other fine thespians in the cast like Anne Bancroft and Charles Durning as the Captain. A very fine character actor named William Atherton is the rigger who plants the bomb.
Wise is a master of suspense because we all know what is going to happen and the ship is going to blow up, and yet you are on the edge of your seat as Ritter desperately races time to find the bomb.
I would also like to mention how much I enjoyed Wise's masterful use of actual film footage of the disaster which he intermingles with scenes of the various actors trying to escape the burning ship.
One of the fun things about these disaster films is watching who lived and who died at the end what is really funny is that those near the top of the cast usually lived the longest!
There was indeed a theory that a rigger on the airship named Eric Spehl they called him Karl Boerth in the movie had indeed sabotaged the Hindenburg.
The surviving crew members said that they had heard a sudden pop over their heads and looked up to see a circle of bright light that looked like a flashbulb igniting.
It was near the axial gangway and this rigger was one of only a few who had acess to it. Spehl was known to have anti Nazi views.
Did he plant a bomb? The theory is that Spehl had timed his explosive device really a flashbulb attached to a photographic timer to go off after the airship had landed.
But the landing was delayed by a storm and he could not get back in time to re set it. Spehl was killed in the disaster and thus we will never know.
The most chilling part of this film is where they play Herb Morrisons recording. He was the WLS Chicago reporter who was there to witness a routine airship landing and instead it was one of the most famous recordings ever made.
Morrison lived until and resided near my home in West Virginia. Looking for some great streaming picks? Check out some of the IMDb editors' favorites movies and shows to round out your Watchlist.

Im RTL-Event-Film Hindenburg wird die Zeppelin-Katastrophe mit einer Verschwörung in Verbindung gebracht, die ein Luftschiffkonstrukteur verhindern will. Besides, the photo used on the first Led Zeppelin album appears in this film There, I said it. One person found this helpful. Arthur Daigle Top Contributor: Gardening.
I got this movie as a gift for a relative, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed watching it. The sets and special effects are exceptional, and the acting is top notch.
The movie theorizes the Hindenburg was destroyed by an explosive, which is no longer considered true, but I still found the movie fascinating since it showed how it could have happened.
The movie also does a good job of showing why airships were abandoned, as there was a constant threat of sparks igniting the ship or tears in the skin bringing the ship down.
There isn't any extra content like trailers, interviews or making of short films, but I don't think that's enough of an issue to drop the rating.
The image and blue-ray remastering of this older film was very well done!! The colors and sound and everything was above the standard you often see when older classics are upgraded!!
The story is good also: lots of drama and human interactions going on with this "Titanic" like story but takes place in the sky not the sea..
Assigned as a colonel by the German government to prevent any plans of sabotage during the Hindenburg's transatlantic voyage, Franz Ritter [George C.
Scott] suspects everyone aboard the luxury ship, especially a German countess [Anne Bancroft] vehemently opposed to the Nazi regime.
Nominated: Best Cinematography for Robert Surtees. Carfagno and Frank R. Bolger Jr. Mack and Don Sharpless. An interesting aspect was the film's transition from black-and-white to Technicolor and back to greyscale, beginning with a simulated Universal Newsreel that gave an educated view to the history of the lighter-than-air craft.
Photographs show the construction of the Hindenburg air ship, to which the narrator describes her as "the climax of man's dream to conquer the air, the new queen of the skies.
Cast: George C. The film stars George C. In reality, while the Zeppelins were certainly used as a propaganda symbol by the Third Reich and anti-Nazi forces might have had the motivation for sabotage, the theory of sabotage was investigated at the time, and no firm evidence for such sabotage was ever put forward.
He boards the ship for a voyage from Germany to America, along with the usual assortment of characters: a wealthy aristocrat [Anne Bancroft] opposed to the Nazi regime, a pair of card sharks Burgess Meredith and Rene Auberjonois, a shady business executive [Gig Young] and a typically villainous Gestapo official [Roy Thinnes].
It soon becomes apparent that someone has planted a bomb on the ship, endangering the lives of all those aboard. The kitchenalia of the non-electric cigarette lighter, the steadiness test with an up-standing pen, the intricacies of landing.
There are smart moments; during the opening scene, we see the vanity of the Nazis. Director Robert Wise makes the bold decision to cut to black-and-white at the moment the bomb goes off.
This enables him to intercut staged scenes with the authentic classic newsreel footage of the actual Hindenburg going down, but what annoyed me was certain scenes had freeze frames inserted with the final demise of the airship and I felt it jarred my visual experience, which in my personal opinion was not at all necessary and definitely spoilt the final demise of the LZ Hindenburg zeppelin, which was kind of odd, but the overall final filmed ending was a surprisingly effective dramatic ending to the film and you felt you was actually experiencing the heat of the high intensity of the flames.
Highly Recommended! Post Script: The film ends with the narrator informing us that 13 passengers, 22 members of the crew, one Navy linesman all died, and luckily there were 62 survivors, but at the very end of this list it is mentioned the last survivor mentioned is the dog.
In fact there were two dogs aboard the Hindenburg and both died. It seems that audiences can apparently handle dozens of people dying but not a dog.
The colours are extremely well defined and natural look to give a very pleasant experience, particularly the deep red colours of the Nazi banners, especially on the airship.
So all in all it gives a very filmic look, especially for the age of the film. The dialogue is heard very clearly and the ambient sounds are nicely handled for the age of the film.
The only slightly negative aspect of the audio experience is when you see the actors in the centre of the airship where the engines seem to overpower the sound and you can hardly hear what the actors are talking to each other.
The composed film music score is very lush and gives the film a solid ambient definition spread across the two front speakers.
So all in all the audio experience gives you a great deal of depth especially when in the main construction part of the Hindenburg airship, and even more impressive at the end of the film when the airship explodes in flames and descends towards the ground and eventually impacts the earth in the most spectacular way.

Several dramatic escapes depicted were based on fact, slightly altered for dramatic purposes, including:.
Although well received by the public as typical "disaster movie" fare, critical reception to The Hindenburg was generally unfavorable.
Roger Ebert 's one-star review from the Chicago Sun-Times dismissed it as a failed project, writing: " The Hindenburg is a disaster picture, all right.
Yet I wouldn't have missed a single foolish frame of it. I sort of like disaster movies, even bad ones, for reasons that have to do with the special effects and with other things that probably go back to the prenatal state.
Murphy of Variety wrote, "Dull and formula scripting, a lack of real empathy and phoned-in acting shoot down some good though unspectacular special effects.
He concluded, "As it stands, the only way to enjoy the film is to get in the mood for trash and to laugh a lot. Its climax is terrifyingly, horrendously spectacular, but the two hours getting there are not as gripping as they might have been.
