A museum archivist rediscovers the dagger that first killed Adam, and is murdered, the dagger taken. Working to obfuscate the existence of immortals, Henry determines that an antiquities specialist obtained the dagger to lure Adam, having learned of him from Mengele's journal.
Jo and Lucas notice Henry's activities; both have heartfelt conversations with him. Adam shoots Henry with the gun that first killed him, intending that Jo will either discover Henry's corpse or witness his disappearance.
Henry injects Adam with a hypodermic needle, then dies and disappears, resurrecting in the East River near Abe. Jo finds only Henry's pocket watch, and Adam now suffering locked-in syndrome from the embolism Henry induced.
Jo confronts Henry with an old photograph Adam took from Abigail's body, revealing Henry's timelessness.
She demands an explanation, and Abe—-who had previously advised Henry that he would need a confidante after Abe's death—-urges him to "tell her.
The concept for Forever came from a conversation between series creator Matt Miller and his five-year-old son about death. After the conversation, Miller began to imagine what life would be like if a person was immortal but everyone else, including that person's own children, were mortals.
That concept informed Miller's decision to make his character a doctor-turned-medical examiner who used his occupation for research into his immortality [49] [50] and Miller's decision to structure the series as a procedural.
Another series-long story arc explored how other people learn of Henry's immortality. Miller stated in an interview with BuddyTV writer Catherine Cabanela that he had never seen that type of family on television before, and he believed that it provide the show with an emotional element.
To demonstrate Henry's immortality, Miller decided that Henry would die and would feel the pain every time he died. Anything on Henry's body would disappear with his body during each death.
The first person cast was Judd Hirsch as Abe. Hirsch was the first person asked about the role. Two days after casting Hirsch, Ioan Gruffudd was cast as Dr.
Henry Morgan. The search for an actor to portray Henry was more difficult than Miller expected. She also liked the idea that, in contrast to de la Garza's characters on other procedurals, Jo had flaws.
Reece was to play a larger role in the series, but her scenes were cut so that the episodes could fit time constraints. The DVDs include the deleted scenes.
Moore was cast as assistant medical examiner Lucas Wahl. Moore and Miller met when Moore guest starred on Miller's previous series Chuck.

One plot device used in the pilot, Henry's pocket watch, proved to be difficult to use in subsequent episodes. In the beginning, the writers would have Henry's pocket watch fall out of his pocket so that it would not disappear with the rest of his body.
It became more difficult for writers to develop believable scenarios in which Henry would lose his watch, so they did not write it into the plot as frequently in later episodes.
Miller and the filming crew had planned to film the rebirth scenes in the pilot in several bodies of water, but they could film it in only one location.
Forever is also the title of a novel by writer Pete Hamill , with a similar premise: an Irishman is granted the gift of immortality by an African sangoma , yet must remain in Manhattan or the gift is renounced.
Television received a letter from RadicalMedia requesting that the name of the series be changed. RadicalMedia stated in the letter that Miller's character, setting, and title were very similar to Hamill's.
The letter also stated that Sundance Studios had begun to develop a television series based on the novel. As of September , Hamill has no plans to proceed with a lawsuit.

So it is a double pleasure having them together. The script is written script. Full of surprises. It's nice to see an old story line brought up to the present.
It does remind me of Highlander. That was a good show then and this will be a great show now. I see that so far there are only 4 episodes. I hope they have not killed the show before it has a chance to air because I am going to tell everyone I know to watch this show.

Walking back towards Riverside, they encounter a mysterious man who invites them to Oceanside. Although Kase wants to go, June doesn't want to abandon Oscar, so they both return to Riverside.
Oscar helps Mark ask out Heather, a woman that he had a crush on when he was alive. While the date goes well, Heather explains that she is waiting for her husband to join her.
When Oscar and June meet up, June voices her fears that their routine will never change, while Oscar explains that he enjoys the routine.
Their angry disagreement remains unresolved. Junior realtor Andre visits an open house for a client.
He meets junior realtor Sarah, who is trying to sell the house. With no one coming to see the house, they grow closer over a bottle of wine.
They kiss, but Sarah backs off, as she is recently engaged. Andre leaves, while a disappointed Sarah watches.
Years later, Sarah attends an open house being held by Andre. They have both gotten married, have advanced in their careers, but once again bond over a bottle of wine at the sparsely attended event.
Sarah admits that she came to see him, and they sleep together in the house. The two continue their affair, using an unpurchased house to simulate a life together.
They agree to tell their spouses so they can be together. Years later, Andre attends an open house run by Sarah's company, where he learns that Sarah recently died of cancer.
As Andre talks to himself about missing their chance, he is watched by June. Affected by Andre's regret, she returns to Kase's and tells her that she is ready to travel to Oceanside.
Oscar wakes up to find a letter from June, telling him that she is leaving him to explore the afterlife with Kase.
Oscar meets with Mark, who introduces him to Josiah, a young boy. Josiah tells them about Oceanside, and Oscar resolves to go there to find June.
June and Kase arrive at Oceanside to discover a community of Formers partying in a mansion overlooking the ocean.
The apparent leaders, Marisol and Gregory, explain that the community has chosen to enjoy the benefits of being dead.
The Formers at Oceanside pursue feats like walking on the ocean floor or letting cars drive through their incorporeal forms. Oscar suddenly arrives and yells at June, furious she has abandoned him.

Oscar explains that people in the afterlife are "Formers", able to see the living, referred to as "Currents", who cannot see Formers. There is a fountain in the center of Riverside; the further away from the fountain that a Former moves, the weaker they feel, which prevents them from leaving.
Oscar reveals that their lake house is present in Riverside, but when they go there, it is occupied by a family of Currents. Oscar enlists Mark, a teenaged Former, to haunt the family into leaving.
Mark teaches them how to affect the real world by channeling their anger into the tips of their fingers, but only June is successful.
The family is not sufficiently spooked, and June tells Oscar that she wants to give up the lake house, feeling it a symbol of the bad routine they had fallen into before their deaths.
Oscar and June start to fall back into the routines that they had been in before their deaths. Once again, June begins to feel restless, while Oscar seems content with their new life.
One day, Mark comes to them to tell them about a new person showing up in the neighborhood. Oscar and June try to welcome their new neighbor, Kase, but she is resistant to their friendly overtures.
They continue their attempts to make friends with Kase, but she continues to shut them out, while making mysterious sounds within her house.
Eventually, June decides to break into Kase's house to see what she is doing. Kase confronts her for this intrusion and invites her over.
