On the surface this is a fairly routine cloak-and-dagger comedy. The novelty of "Central Intelligence" is the role reversal in the casting.
In a change of pace it's Kevin Hart playing straight man to a normally stoic Dwayne Johnson. Johnson is quite good as the funnyman giving dimension to his nerdy character while Hart responds with hilarious comic exasperation.
I can imagine Johnson's role being played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in his heyday. Jason Bateman has a terrific bit as Johnson's high school tormentor.
Not awards material but nice low think escapism. I am a big fan of both Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson so it is possible that my review is a bit bias; nevertheless, I really think if you give this one a chance you'll find it doesn't disappoint.
There are lots of laughs, a fair amount of action, and a creative storyline that all come together for a thumbs up night of entertainment.
Johnson did take some getting use to in the beginning of the movie because the character he played didn't really seem like his normal casting call, but as the story unfolds he settles into the role nicely.

The Rock and Kevin Hart are the perfect choice for their characters. There are so many laugh out loud moments to mention here but believe me, one would have to be the Grinch to not enjoy the the humor present throughout the movie.

Alas, in Central Intelligence, the brilliant bits and entertaining plot twists are overwhelmed by the plodding adolescence angst delayed for 20 years.
Unfortunately, the absurdist parts of Dwayne Johnson as either a brilliant spy or stilted awkward adolescent trapped in a super-sized body does not work well as he swings madly between these two conflicted extremes.
Kevin Hart, on the other hand, is brilliant as the high school overachiever who has settled into a life of suburban routine. If the first 15 minutes don't engage you, switch to something else, because it will not got better or worse for that matter.
